Parker P.A.L.S.
(Partners Assisting Lion Staff)
Introducing Parker P.A.L.S. - a new program to give teachers and staff more time and energy by connecting them with parents and community partners who want to help.
- Lightens the load on teachers and staff. Tasks like copying, prepping materials, and running small-group activities add up. When volunteers handle some of them, teachers can spend more of their day planning lessons and working directly with students.
- Gives students more attention. Extra adults in the room for 2nd teach, small groups, Encore and extension activities mean more individual support, which is good for learning.
- Builds a stronger school community. Parents get to know the classrooms, teachers, and other Parker families, and students see that their families value their school. Over time, that connection can lift morale for everyone.
The types of requests and volunteer opportunities available will depend on the teachers and staff members submissions. Experience with education and classrooms is helpful but not required. Most of the requests will be in-person and during regular school hours.
Some roles mays require training or an pre-interview with the teacher or staff member to determine if it is a good fit for everyone. All volunteers must be VIPS registered through HISD.
Complete the Parker P.A.L.S. Interest Form to be added to the roster of partners. We will send out newsletters about the P.A.L.S. Program and open volunteer opportunities to anyone on this roster.
