Every year, Parker participates in HISD’s “Name that Book” reading competition at both the K-2 and 3-5 grade levels.

Interested students must read all 6 books above and complete the try-out test. The 6 students who score the highest on each level will be the team members. The teams then compete against other HISD elementary schools in the spring. In order for students to participate, they must be up to date on schoolwork and love to read. They also need to have good comprehension, retention and listening skills, along with excellent behavior.

A list of the books along with the rules for the competitions can be found at the following web site: https://www.houstonisd.org/Page/179107

Your student is able to come to the Library during Open Checkout time (Tuesdays 2:30-2:50) to have access to the NTB books. You can also check out the books from the Public Library or purchase your own copy. We have a copy of all the above titles for the students to read through and practice, however these will not be available for check out until after the team is established.

Please keep in mind that this is not a reading club but a competitive team. The district-wide contest date is March 5, 2024. The competition is virtual.

Please contact Ms. Hokanson at leslie.hokanson@houstonisd.org regarding the K-2 team.
